If you use an SaaS On-demand CRM, there are many reasons why you should have a backup of your CRM in the database of your choice.
Your on-demand service may experience a serious outage, or your CRM may go bankrupt.
One reason is always have a backup on-premise, of course. (And test the restore, please!)
Several years ago, I used Crystal Reports (am I dating myself here?) on a SQL database to do some very extensive and recursive searches that was not available on the CRM package.
The result?
A good output (i.e. a list) that generated more sales on software renewals!
If you are a Salesforce.com customer, then you already know about the Informatica Integration Pack (iPack) for Salesforce CRM which is by far the best product of a kind out there on AppExchange.
There’s another company called Magic Software with the Data Replicator for Salesforce.com, designed to provide automatic, real-time data back-up.
