Key milestone highlights rapid community adoption of open source ERP solution;
Developer release of major new v3 debuts power tools for power users
xTuple, the leader in open source enterprise resource planning software, announced the free and open source PostBooks Edition of its xTuple ERP product recently passed the 100,000 download milestone on the SourceForge.net open source hosting portal. The company also announced that a beta release of the all-new Version 3 of its product is now available for testing.
“In addition to the 100,000 downloads, our upcoming version 3.0 is another major milestone for xTuple,” said Ned Lilly, CEO of xTuple. “While we’ve had daily builds available for some time, this beta release includes sample databases and upgrade scripts. We’re eager to get this into the hands of the developer and user communities.”
The PostBooks Edition of xTuple ERP is the company’s entry-level offering, available completely free and open source, suitable for small businesses of all kinds. It includes full financials; robust CRM; sales and purchasing; financial and ad-hoc reporting; and lightweight inventory, manufacturing and distribution.
xTuple ERP Standard Edition is a midrange commercially-licensed offering, which adds advanced inventory control, warehousing, and other features to the core package. It is a good option for distributors, retailers, light manufacturers, and anyone else who would prefer commercially licensed software. The OpenMFG Edition is the premium commercial offering, and is recommended for manufacturing companies in both discrete and batch process production; make to order, make to stock, or mixed-mode; even job shops and engineer-to-order.
PostBooks users can upgrade to the Standard or OpenMFG Editions by running a simple script against their database. The client software is exactly the same, available for download from SourceForge.net.
The beta release of xTuple ERP 3.0 includes several powerful new features for advanced ERP users, including a customizable Screen Builder that loads custom-built user interface screens from the xTuple database, the ability to use Javascript to manipulate the application, and a Sales Order Configurator to support highly customized assemble-to-order businesses.
The PostBooks Edition of xTuple ERP is available free of charge under the open source Common Public Attribution License (CPAL). The Standard and OpenMFG Editions are available under xTuple’s innovative hybrid license, whereby customers and partners have full access to the application source code, and any enhancements made to the product flow back to xTuple for review, quality testing, and possible incorporation into the baseline product. All xTuple ERP products run equally well on Mac, Windows, and Linux computers, and are fully internationalized with multi-currency, support for multiple tax structures, and multilingual translation packs maintained by the global open-source community. All this and more, including public discussion forums, blogs, a new documentation wiki, and the community issue/bug tracker, can be found at www.xtuple.org.
