LongJump Debuts On-Demand Database-as-a-Service
January 9, 2008
Sunnyvale, California - January 9, 2008 - On-demand business applications firm LongJump, a service of Relationals Inc., has developed new application programming interfaces, designed to enable its platform to deliver a ”Database-as-a-Service” (DaaS) offering.
Pankaj Malviya, Founder and CEO of LongJump noted, ”Businesses want unified web applications that help them manage their critical business information and processes with increased team communication and collaboration. LongJump’s Database-as-a-Service makes it possible for businesses to access secure, customizable, and fully functional business applications that are highly affordable. LongJump’s Database-as-a-Service is the next step along our vision to enable dynamic business applications.”
LongJump’s new DaaS offering was developed for companies to enable self-provision relational database access and storage on-demand. Similar to Amazon’s S3 on-demand storage service, LongJump gives developers a compelling alternative for housing their web-based applications. LongJump’s DaaS provides a complete environment for hosting a web-enabled database that’s highly secure while simultaneously cutting the costs and easing the hassles for entrepreneurs and developers who would otherwise have to purchase a database server, provision it, address data access and availability issues, manage backup and replication issues, and tackle security and data protection.
A surprisingly large number of businesses manage, share, and update important company data in spreadsheets and ad-hoc databases. These databases are usually put together by business analysts or team members who take the initiative to solve a problem; however, these solutions often lack the performance, access control, security, maintenance, and backup to ensure data and keep teams from effectively collaborating around that data. Now, people with basic spreadsheet skills or database skills can move their database to LongJump’s DaaS and benefit from a high availability platform and built-in tools to manage user access, build dashboards, create custom reports, and add data polices or workflows to drive business activities from the data.
Business analysts, IT managers, and developers will benefit with the ability to:
* Leverage LongJump’s full-featured DaaS multi-tenant platform, which does not require any additional IT infrastructure or database administration.
* Build highly useful, interconnected database applications quickly. LongJump applications can be integrated easily with other software applications to improve data consistency and collaboration across an organization.
* Integrate end-to-end mash-ups with existing business or move data in and out of LongJump using industry standard methods.
* Perform highly secure, web-based data management and manipulation even while new applications are being developed.
When data is loaded into LongJump, it is accessible to team members via a web browser. Alternatively, web developers can build integrated data-driven websites without managing a database infrastructure by using a REST-based, XML API that provides flexibility to add, delete, search, update, and view data within the database and is compatible with multiple developer programming languages. LongJump’s API also supports both Simple Object Access Protocol message responses over HTTP/HTTPS and custom Java-bean scripting within its built-in data policy engine.
Based in Sunnyvale, California, LongJump is a service of Relationals Inc., a privately-held, provider of on-demand CRM and SFA business applications to more than 100 enterprise companies. LongJump provides a catalog of highly customizable, interconnected on-demand applications aimed at SMBs in high growth markets that need to drive revenue growth by making employees and teams more efficient and productive.
